Pregnancy Q & A

What should I do if I think I’m pregnant?

If you think you might be pregnant, you can use a home pregnancy testing kit in the first instance, but a negative result won’t necessarily mean you aren’t pregnant. It’s always best to consult an obstetric professional, so make an appointment to see one of the OB/GYNs at Galasso, Hirsch & Russell M.D.s, PC, for a checkup and confirmation of your condition.

What does an obstetrician do during my pregnancy?

Your obstetrician is a highly trained expert in pregnancy and childbirth and plays an important role in ensuring you and your baby stay fit and healthy. She performs routine tests to check your health and the baby’s development, and monitors you for any health conditions that could arise during pregnancy, such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Infections

They’ll also help you manage some of the less pleasant aspects of pregnancy, including:

  • Morning sickness
  • Heartburn and acid reflux
  • Back pain
  • Swollen legs and ankles

Your obstetrician is there to answer all your questions and offer advice on keeping well so that you stay healthy and enjoy your pregnancy. They also have the skills and experience needed to manage high-risk pregnancies, providing specialist care and facilities for women with complex needs.

What does an obstetrician do during labor?

Your obstetrician gives you plenty of information and advice about going into labor and giving birth, so you’ll know what to do when you feel the first signs that labor’s begun. When you reach the hospital, your obstetrician is on hand to check your progress, measuring how much time lapses between contractions and how dilated you are, and that all is going as planned.

Your obstetrician has the knowledge and expertise to spot any signs that all might not be well and can intervene if necessary to ensure your safety and the baby’s. They are on hand to assist with vaginal deliveries and can perform a cesarean section if it would be best for mother and baby.

If you want the best possible experience of pregnancy, Galasso, Hirsch & Russell M.D.s, PC, has some of the finest OB/GYNs in New York, so call them today or book an appointment online.
